NYC Mayor Eric Adams Says 'Hit Me Up' After 50 Cent Rips Migrant Credit Cards
Eric Adams is ready to talk policy with 50 Cent.
The New York City mayor said he wants to set the record straight after the rapper blasted him Saturday on Instagram over the city’s plan to spend $53 million on pre-paid credit cards for illegal immigrants.
Except 50 Cent was serious. And Adams isn't serious at all.
"First to Fiddy, I have not had one birthday that I have not played his music," the mayor told reporters at City Hall Monday. "So I told 50 Cent to hit me up.
"I would love to explain it to him so that he can go out and do another tweet of saying, ‘you know what, Eric is just a smart manager, and now we understand why he was elected by the people of the city of New York.'"
Adams added: "Maybe he’ll write a song about me."
Thanks, Mayor, that's very unhelpful.
NYC will provide pre-paid credit cards to "asylum seekers" — who are already staying in the city's iconic Roosevelt Hotel for free — intended to help them pay for food. A family of four could receive up to $1,000 per month. Meanwhile, tax-paying Americans who are already struggling with the rising cost of groceries can just kick rocks.
So 50 Cent took to Instagram to express his frustration with the new plan.
"WTF mayor Adams call my phone, I don’t understand how this works, somebody explain," he wrote. "Can’t explain this I’m stuck maybe TRUMP is the answer."
Eric Adams later tried to justify the program, claiming local businesses will benefit from immigrants using the cards to purchase food from bodegas and grocery stores.
His offer to chat with 50 Cent, though, was not sincere. Adams' aides clarified he has not actually reached out to the rapper.
