Video: Rand Paul Implores Dr. Fauci for Kids to Return to School

Dr. Anthony Fauci is testifying to Congress again today, and he was asked a very pointed, five-minute question from Senator Rand Paul about clarity as to children returning to school and daycare. Here's the video:

"For a time there may not have been enough information about coronavirus and children, but now there is," said Senator Paul. "There are examples from all across the United States and the world that show that children rarely spread the virus. Let's start in Europe. 22 countries have reopened their schools and seen no discernible increases in cases. These graphs behind me show no surge when schools open ... Contact tracing studies in China, Iceland, Britain, and the Netherlands failed to find a single case of child-to-adult infection."

Senator Paul went through studies from Brown University on daycares that stayed open for children of essential workers as well as statistics from the YMCA that indicated childcare was a very low risk. He also cited the call from the American Association of Pediatrics to get kids physically back in school.

Eventually came the quote from the tweet above: "Dr. Fauci, every day we seem to hear from you things we can’t do. But when you’re asked, can we go back to school? I don’t hear much certitude at all."

When Senator Paul finished, Dr. Fauci answered, "If you were listening to my opening statement and my response to one of the questions, I feel very strongly we need to do whatever we can to get the children back to school. I think we are in lock-step agreement with that."
