Portland Looking To Spend $1.4 Million For Unarmed Police... Good Luck
Crime is heavily spiking in the city of Portland. Shocking news, I know.
There have been over 250 shootings so far this year. That is a drastic increase from the 111 shootings that had occurred through this same time last year. But for anyone paying attention, this isn't surprising.
It is a problem that needs to be addressed, however. Except the solution being put forward is a real head scratcher. First off, Portland Police Chief Chuck Lovell is acknowledging that there is a major issue at his.
“We know this work is important,” he said, via KGW. “It’s some of the most important work we do ’cause it really impacts people’s lives and safety every day.”
So what is that solution I mentioned? Well, the Portland city council has approved a $6 million plan that is designed to combat the increasing rate of shootings. Not a dime of it will go towards the city's police bureau, though.
Of that money, $4.1 million will go towards community groups for work in the neighborhoods most affected by the gun violence. Another $1.4 million will go towards "unarmed park rangers" who will be patrolling around the clock. Yes, you read that correctly.
The plan includes having the good guys politely asking the bad guys to stop. What could go wrong? Unfortunately, this could cost lives before the entirety of some people's stupidity is realized.
