Xavier Worthy Wants To Play For Chiefs, Said Patrick Mahomes Texted Him After Combine
After setting the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Scouting Combine last week, Xavier Worthy said his phone blew up with congratulatory texts. And one of those texts came from Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The former Texas Longhorns wide receiver was particularly excited about the message from Mahomes because — very soon — he hopes to be catching passes from the three-time Super Bowl champion.
"In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs," Worthy told USA TODAY. "Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you. They had Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me."
Hill played six seasons in Kansas City and helped the Chiefs win Super Bowl LIV. One of the fastest players in the NFL, Hill ran the 40 in 4.29 at an unofficial event in 2016. (He wasn't invited to the Combine.) Worthy ran it in 4.21.

"I definitely knew I had a chance. I didn’t know it was gonna happen in reality. I came in knowing I was gonna run nothing slower than 4.25," Worthy said.
"When I ran a 4.25 on my first one, I knew I was gonna break it. Because when I was training, I always ran faster on my second 40. So, I knew I was gonna run faster on that second 40."
So Worthy is confident he's faster than Tyreek Hill. In fact, he's pretty confident he'll be the fastest player in the NFL. But could he beat 37-year-old Usain Bolt in a foot race?
"No," he said. "His 40 was in shoes and sweats. There’s no comparison. I’m not even gonna disrespect him."
In 14 games at Texas during his senior season, Xavier Worthy totaled 75 receptions for 1,014 and five touchdowns. And with the NFL Draft just a month and a half away, we'll find out soon if he's united with his new friend Patrick Mahomes.
