Xander Schauffele, Other PGA Tour Players Wasted No Time Trolling Scottie Scheffler Following His Arrest
Xander Schauffele was a bit pre-occupied at Valhalla Golf Club last week in his quest of winning the PGA Championship, the first major championship victory of his career, but that doesn't mean he didn't make the time to mess with Scottie Scheffler shortly after his shocking arrest earlier in the week.
Scheffler was arrested just outside an entrance to Valhalla early Friday morning after allegedly driving past a police officer who was directing traffic. After being put in handcuffs and placed in the back of a cop car, he was ultimately booked and charged with second-degree assault of a police officer (a felony), criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.
Scheffler's mugshot, orange jumpsuit and all, went mega-viral on Friday so, naturally, Schauffele and a few other PGA Tour players decided to use it to poke fun at the No. 1 player in the world.
Schauffele recently joined ‘Pardon My Take’ and shared some inside info on a group chat he's in with Scheffler.
"(Scheffler) took it like a champ and we have a group chat, with our physio, our crew. It's me, Gary (Woodland), JT, Jordan, Scottie, Pat (Cantlay) − we all share the same physio," Schauffele said.
Co-host PFT Commenter jumped in and said, "You've got to change the picture of that group chat to the mug shot."
"Obviously, that happened," Schauffele explained. "He handled it really well. In Scottie Scheffler fashion − he's a good dude. As soon as I saw it, I thought it was a prank and then I saw it on the news and was like: 'Holy smokes, this actually happened!' It feels like he's going to come out okay from all this, it feels like things are going to get dropped."
It's good to know that all the guys in that specific group chat are just like the rest of us idiots out there, because this is the exact same move another golf group chat would pull if someone in the group was arrested and thrown in an orange jumpsuit.
The only difference here is that group chat was filled with major championship winners valued at well over $100 million, while our group chats are made up of guys looking for the cheapest happy hour in town.
