If X Posts Means Anything, The Oilers Are Hyped For Game 7, While the Panthers Are Shaking In Their Skates
Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Edmonton Oilers and the Florida Panthers is set for tonight at 8 p.m. EST, and only one of the teams seems excited about it.
Granted, that’s not a huge surprise, because this isn’t your ordinary Game 7 (which is already exciting enough). At one point in the series - which seems like forever ago now - Florida held a 3-0 series lead over the Western Conference champions. For the first 180 minutes of hockey, the Panthers put the Oilers in a stranglehold, winning Games 1-3 by scores of 3-0, 4-1, and 4-3.
After the third loss, Edmonton head coach Kris Knoblauch made the seemingly audacious claim that the Oilers had shown they could beat Florida. And wouldn’t you know it, the Oilers validated their coach’s claim over the next three games.
Connor McDavid, Evan Bouchard, and Connor Brown spearheaded a ferocious comeback, and only one of the next three games was close: Edmonton won all three by scores of 8-1, 5-3, and 5-1.
Against all odds, the Oilers could become just the sixth team ever to win a best-of-7 series after being down 3-0. Additionally, a win would mark just the second time in NHL history that a team did so to win the title.
With all that in mind, the Oilers social media team released a doozy of a pregame hype video that is sure to get fans in Edmonton rocking.
The Oilers Are Rocking, The Panthers, Not So Much
Now, if social media tells us anything (and sometimes it does), then I would say the Oilers are fired up for this winner-take-all matchup.
That begs the question: what kind of message are the Panthers sending through their social media?
Unfortunately for Florida fans, it's not a super convincing one.
As of publishing time, this was the most notable post on the Panthers’ social media.
If you’re feeling the exact opposite of inspired, I’m sure that’s how everyone in Sunrise feels as well.
Frankly, this isn’t that surprising. Florida had three separate chances to close out the series and win their first title in franchise history, and choked miserably every time. Now, they’re one loss away from being perhaps the biggest laughingstock in NHL history, if not North American sports history.
Still, the Panthers have a forward group that includes Aleksander Barkov, Carter Verhaeghe, Matthew Tkachuk, and Sam Reinhart, and they can put up goals in a hurry. All they need is 60 minutes of good hockey from these guys, and they will dodge a massive bullet.
But then again, the Oilers might have other ideas.
We'll see if the Panthers' social media team posts anything closer to puck drop. But for right now, this isn't a great look.
