WNBA Star Sabrina Ionescu Mentors Kobe Bryant's 7-Year-Old Daughter Bianka
Bianka Bryant — the 7-year-old daughter of Kobe Bryant — is getting some 1-on-1 coaching from WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu.
During a trip to New York City last weekend, Vanessa Bryant took her daughters (Bianka and 4-year-old Capri) on a girl's trip to New York City. That's where they met up with Ionescu, who plays for the New York Liberty. An Instagram video shows Ionescu and Bianka shooting hoops and practicing passing drills.
"Had a fun time in NYC w/my babies this weekend. So glad we got to see 'Beana,'" Vanessa wrote in the caption.
Ionescu commented: "Shooting definitely runs in the family."
The two-time WNBA All-Star has grown close to the Bryants over the years. Kobe was a mentor for Ionescu after the former NBA superstar attended one of her college basketball games at Oregon.
"They sat courtside, where my jaw dropped," Ionescu told the LA Times. "They watched the entire game. And that was the first time I met Kobe."
Kobe and his daughter Gianna tragically died in a helicopter crash in January 2020. During his memorial service at the Staples Center, Ionescu spoke about his lasting impact on her life.
"I carry Kobe and Gigi with me every day and honor their legacies through my dedication to the game," Ionescu said. "I wake up every day grateful for the platform I've been given, and I strive to lead by example and serve as a role model for young people and especially girls to pursue sports — a platform Kobe and Gigi were passionate about.
"I saw the way he supported his family and his constant advocacy for women's basketball. His encouragement and promotion of equality in sports along with his Mamba Mentality is what motivates me today."
Later that day, Ionescu became the first male or female Division I college basketball player to reach 2,000 points, 1,000 assists and 1,000 rebounds during the Ducks’ game against the Stanford Cardinals.
Seems like Bianka is in good hands.
