Tiger Woods Explains Why He Wears Red On Sundays During Awkward Sales Pitch On 'The Tonight Show'
We've reached the point of Tiger Woods' career where he is appearing on late-night television not to talk about recent accomplishments on the golf course, but to push his new clothing line after his split with Nike.
Woods recently made the media rounds in New York City with appearances on both the ‘Today Show’ and ‘The Tonight Show’ with Jimmy Fallon to talk about Sun Day Red and its launch to the public.
Seeing Woods on these shows playing the role of salesman was both awkward and offered up a taste of the new reality in which the 48-year-old is no longer a force inside the ropes.
One interesting tidbit did come of Woods' appearance with Fallon as he shared why exactly he's worn red on Sundays all these years.
There have been plenty of theories about Woods' wardrobe choice over the years, ranging from red simply being his favorite color or that it was perhaps a nod to Stanford where he played for two years before turning professional, but the red is a tip of the cap to his mother.
"It comes from my mom. My mom thought it was my being a Capricorn, whatever," Woods told Fallon. "It was my power color or some BS thing like that. So, I end up wearing red, winning some junior golf tournaments. And then, to spite her, I wore blue. And I did not win those tournaments. So, mama's always right."
Woods has shared similar versions of the story behind his Sunday red wardrobe, but his note about wearing blue out of "spite" for his mother is a new wrinkle. It's fitting that Woods shared that piece of the story while wearing a blue hoodie next to Fallon.

The topic of actually playing golf did come up during his media rounds, and he explained that he is still hopeful that he can play one tournament per month through the rest of the 2024 season.
Woods withdrew from The Genesis Invitational back in February before making the cut at the Masters in April en route to a 60th place finish. It's safe to assume that Woods is hopeful that he can play in the PGA Championship later this month, the U.S. Open in mid-June, and The Open four weeks later.
