Utah State CB Andre Seldon, Jr. Found Dead By Local Authorities

The Utah State Aggies season does not start until Aug. 31, but it is already shrouded in tragedy.

According to authorities in Cache County, UT, cornerback Andre Seldon Jr., who was just 22 years old, was found dead. They launched an investigation at Porcupine Reservoir after a man was seen diving off cliffs, and then didn’t surface after hitting the water.

"Our football program is heartbroken to have to endure the loss of one of our own," interim Utah State head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Drelling said in a news release. "Having had a previous relationship with Andre during our time together at New Mexico State, I can tell you he was an incredible person and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre's family as we grieve with them over this tremendous loss."

Seldon originally committed to Michigan in 2020 and even played in the Under Armor All-American game earlier that season. However, he only appeared in two games for the Maize n’ Blue. He then transferred to New Mexico state, and after two years with the Aggies recorded 64 tackles and two interceptions.

Both of his former schools posted tributes of condolences on X.

Diana Sabau, the vice president and director of athletics for Utah State, also issued a statement about the heartbreaking news.

"Our Utah State University Athletics family is devastated over the sudden death of Andre Seldon Jr.," Diana Sabau, the vice president and director of athletics, said in a release. "We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved Andre."
