Temporary Fix: Utah Hockey Club Drops Uniforms For Its Debut Season
The NHL's newest club doesn't have a permanent name yet — although that is currently being worked on — so we've known for some time that the team will play its inaugural season in Salt Lake City under the name Utah Hockey Club.
Now, we know what they'll look like when they take the ice in a few months thanks to the release of the team's inaugural jersey set.
The team unveiled its debut logo and jersey set in a video that celebrated the official completion of the deal to make it the NHL's newest franchise.
Let's start with what we already knew about. A couple of weeks ago, the team's temporary primary logo leaked. That leak was accurate, but now we have a full set of logos in the team's colors which are Mountain Blue, Rock black, and Salt White (although I think they need a splash of purple to match the Jazz's new look).
Not bad, but remember, these are supposed to be temporary. Once the real name is in place, these are likely to go the way of the dodo, although I don't hate that secondary logo with the state of Utah behind it.
Now, onto the jerseys. They're as plain and simple as you'd expect a temporary set of uniforms to be.
Considering these are temporary and likely thrown together relatively quickly, I think these are pretty solid. I mean, you can't tell me this isn't a better home and away set than some other teams in the league. The simple, classic approach usually works for hockey sweaters.
Still, we'll hear plenty of fans hating on a jersey that will barely be in the rotation for 12 months.
The New Utah Sweaters' First League Function Is Likely To Be The NHL Draft
Now, the first time we'll see these puppies (or at least one of them) at a league function will probably be during the upcoming NHL Draft at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
By hustling to get a temporary sweater ready in time for the draft, Utah can avoid what happened to the current iteration of the Winnipeg Jets when they selected Mark Scheifele in the first round of the 2011 Draft.
Yeah… at least Scheifele worked out for the Jets.
So, Utah's maiden jersey will debut when Utah makes the 6th pick of the draft, unless, of course, it deals it, which may not be the worst idea in the world.
