USF Tried To Impress Football Recruits With Lamborghini Photoshoot, But It Wasn't Very Impressive

In the era of big NIL money and multi-million-dollar college athletes, schools are pulling out all the flashy, big-money stops to lure recruits to play for their program. And South Florida is no different.

USF is hosting 18 football recruits this weekend, five of whom have already committed, according to On3. And in an effort to impress these potential Bulls, the program lined up several Lamborghinis on the field at Raymond James Stadium for a photoshoot.

"The highlight of the weekend was seeing how big time USF is now," St. Augustine High School quarterback and USF commit Locklan Hewlett told On3. "It’s a big-time program, and people are finally starting to see it. The recruits loved the photoshoot; it was absolutely insane."

OK, a lot to unpack here.

Let's ignore the fact that an opportunity to take a photo with a car doesn't seem like a good enough reason to commit to a school. And that no one who plays for USF is likely to have Lamborghini money anyway.

Let's look at the real issue here: That field just looks awful. It looks like the grassy tailgating lot at your favorite outdoor concert venue at the end of August. I need to see the recruits' photos because there's no way a line of Lambos on that patchy field will translate to fire Instagram posts. Not without some serious editing.

And I'm not the only one who feels that way. Social media ripped USF to shreds over this stunt.

I actually feel sorry for the real victim here: the grounds crew at Raymond James Stadium. It's June — that field isn't supposed to be in pristine condition. But here they are getting dragged just because USF thought it would be cool if their recruits could snap a photo with an exotic rental car.

We'll see if it pays off for them, I guess.
