UConn National Title Celebration Features Multiple Arrests
A handful of UConn students got after it a bit too hard after the Huskies cut down the nets.
UConn beat Purdue in the national title game, and as we often see after a college wins a national title, the celebration immediately started on campus for people in Storrs.
To paraphrase the great Dan Dakich, I ain't mad about it. It's what college students do. Most never get to see a national title.
When they do, they want to cut loose, but a few took it a shade too far late Monday night/early Tuesday morning.
Multiple arrests made during UConn national title celebration.
Five students were arrested during the celebrations that consumed the UConn campus, according to the Hartford Courant.
The vandalism issues included light posts and street signs being torn down and windows being broken. All things considered, five arrests and some light posts and windows being broken in child's play.
Anyone who wants to freakout about that is just clutching their pearls. As for the five arrested, it's not ideal, but their sacrifices won't be forgotten.
Someone had to take things too far. It wouldn't be college if they didn't, and five brave UConn students stepped up to the plate and spent the night in jail. Pour one out for them.
I've been in a handful of sports celebrations all stemming from Wisconsin having back-to-back Final Four appearances. The win over 38-0 Kentucky was legit one of the most fun nights of my life, but those details remain highly-classified. Only one video from the night exists, and that's probably for the best for everyone involved.
What I will say is that the year prior, a cop tried to take the football I had during a packed sports celebration/riot. I told him to go long and I'd uncork a bomb for him. That really pissed him off, and he just stole my football. I'd still like that back if there are any Wisconsin cops reading this.
Props to UConn students for getting after it. That's the kind of content we love to see. Let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
