UConn, Iowa State Hilariously Mess Up Their 'Ticket Punched' Celebrations After Conference Title Wins
The UConn Huskies and Iowa State Cyclones each punched their tickets to the dance with conference tournament wins yesterday (Big East and Big 12, respectively). While their performance on the court was a masterclass in execution, their post-game celebrations were anything but.
UConn won their conference tournament last night by defeating the Marquette Golden Eagles 73-57. With the victory win comes an automatic berth in the upcoming March Madness tournament (the best time of year to be a sports fan, let's be real). Not that the Huskies needed it, but it’s still nice.
Whenever a team earns an automatic bid, they are presented with a massive "ticket," symbolizing their earned trip to the tournament. Each team then places a sticker with their logo on the ticket, and everyone gets hyped.
But thanks to guard Jaylin Stewart, the celebration was poorly executed.
The freshman tried to slap the sticker on the ticket in the locker room. But he forgot to peel the sticker first, so it fell straight to the floor.
I feel like Stewart would have learned how stickers work at some point, right? He had to have gotten one after a visit to the doctor as a kid, or after voting in a town election, or if he put one on his laptop.
But when you’re hyped after winning perhaps the toughest conference in college basketball for the first time since 2011, you might forget a few things.
Iowa State Made An Equally Bad Blunder In Their Celebration
Iowa State didn’t fare much better either. After obliterating the Houston Cougars 69-41 to win the Big 12 title, the Cyclones had their own opportunity to let the world know they too were guaranteed to play in March Madness.
They did their celebration on the court, in front of thousands of fans in Kansas City, MO. In retrospect, they might have wanted to do it in private.
Senior forward Tre King did the honors of slapping the sticker on the ticket. While he did remember to peel the protective layer off the sticker (unlike Stewart), he still managed to crumple the sticker on the logo.
I love the utter shock of his teammates at how badly King messed it up.
Again, he was probably just excited about the big win, like Stewart was for UConn. After all, his team smoked the AP No. 1 team in the most lopsided Big 12 title game in conference history.
Let’s just hope these guys continue to do a better job of executing on the court, especially UConn, since I’m going to pick them in my bracket.
