Travis Kelce Channels Whitesnake's David Coverdale, Dedicates Karaoke Award To Some 'Taylor' Lady
We all know what Travis Kelce can do on the football field. What I didn't realize was that the man is a force to be reckoned with on karaoke night.
Kelce was at the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe where he was crowned as the winner of the weekend's karaoke contest, a win he dedicated to some woman named, "Taylor."
…Not totally sure what that was about.
Now, I'm sure you're wondering what song he sang. I know I was. I'm fascinated by the art of karaoke song choice.
Like, last year, I was in a sushi bar, and while I was trying to remember what the hell "kani" is, a guy was called up on stage to do some karaoke. It was clear that he was a regular at this place, and what song did he sing?
"The Monster Mash." Not a bad choice in October, but this happened in April.
I know they don't mention Halloween in that song, but I still think about what could have possibly made that dude say, "Guys; it's ‘Monster Mash’ time," six months from Halloween.
Personally, I have two go-to songs. One is "Hunger Strike" by Temple of the Dog. I know that's a duet, but I do both the Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell parts because I'm what you call "a showman."
The other song I opt for is "Mr. Roboto" by Styx. I don't really have a reason for that one, I just like it and so does everyone. Anyone who says otherwise is lying.
So, back to Travis. He struck me as a guy who would pick a lazy, hack karaoke song like "Sweet Caroline" or "Mr. Brightside," but he made my jaw drop by going for Whitesnake's hit song "Here I Go Again," a tune that conjures up images of Tawny Kitaen rolling around on a car hood like no other.
Color me impressed, and you know what? It wasn't too bad!
Anyone who knows rock music is aware that David Coverdale is one of the best rock singers of all time. I mean, you can just hear it for yourself. But if there was any doubt in addition to Whitesnake, he was in Deep Purple and was on the short-list of names to replace Ronnie James Dio in Black Sabbath.
The man can sing.
So, any Coverdale tune is a tall order when you're karaoke-ing, so full marks to Travis Kelce on having the guts to give it a go.
