Transgender Runner Waltzes To Win At Oregon Girls' Track & Field Championship, Crowd Boos
A transgender high school runner heard boos upon crossing the finish line in first place during a girls' 200-meter final at the Oregon School Activities Association Track & Field State Championships.
Funny… it's almost like people don't like that very much.
Aayden Gallagher is a sophomore at McDaniel High School, is a biological male competing against girls, and on Saturday cruised to victory in the 200.
In fact, it sure looks like Gallagher kind of eased up a little bit at the line, and you can see it in a clip shared by OutKick's Riley Gaines, host of the Gaines for Girls podcast.
Gallagher — who also placed second in the 400-meter race — wound up on the top step of the podium in the 200 with a time of 23.82 seconds, per the official results.
Now, let's take a look at what the winning time on the boys' side was, shall we?
The winning time on the boys' side was 21.37 seconds.
But, hey, maybe that kid was Usain Bolt Jr. It's possible. So, what was the last-place time in that boys 200 meter final?
It was 22.44 seconds
So, if Gallagher was competing with the proper biological sex, they wouldn't be sniffing a spot on the podium. They'd be more than a second off the pace in a race that hardly lasts more than 20 seconds.
Oh, and speaking of which, and if you thought the boos were prevalent in that video of the race itself, wait until you hear the podium ceremony.
The crowd — which you've got to assume was largely filled with parents — sounded disgusted by this.
Gallagher also competed in the 400-meter race at the state championship and won their heat race.
Gallagher placed second in the 400m final.
This isn't the first time that Gallagher's athletic exploits have come under fire. Earlier this month, when another video of them dominating a girls' race went viral.
The boos we're hearing in some of those videos are yet another example that most Americans are not cool with men and boys competing against women and girls.
