Tommy Tuberville Goes Off On Dawn Staley's Trans Comments

Alabama Senator and ex-college football coach Tommy Tuberville, an advocate of keeping men out of women's sports, joined Jonathan Hutton and Chad Withrow on OutKick Hot Mic to discuss Dawn Staley's comments on trans athletes.

The South Carolina Gamecocks coach told OutKick's Dan Zaksheske over the weekend that she would gladly welcome a man onto the women's team in the name of inclusivity. Staley's comments prompted many reactions.

The mainstream media praised Staley, while our Dan Zaksheske received flack for highlighting the trans athletes in women's sports issue.

Senator Tuberville joined Hot Mic to question Staley's message to allow men to enter women's college basketball, which stirs concerns about ruining the sport's parity.

WATCH:

Senator Tuberville took a major stance on the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. He also hosted a roundtable featuring some of the top voices in women's rights in sports, including ex-Penn swimmer Paula Scanlan and former ESPN personality Sage Steele.

Hutton asked the senator, "When you see this from a coach at the top of her sport, a national championship-winning coach not defending what you're championing in Washington, what do you think?"

Tuberville made his point, emphatically.

He flipped Staley's logic — the Senator reminded Staley that players make the team, not their coach and that a nobody off the street could coach a team of "trans" ball players capable of beating Staley's all-women championship team.

All that to say, the difference between men and women is obvious, something Staley doesn't understand.

"If somebody wants to get out there and really challenge her on this, get them a head coaching job in girls basketball and start recruiting men to play. …

"They would be totally dominant if they went out and got backup from some of these men's college basketball teams and let them play against women. I can't believe we're talking about this. People have lost their minds, even thinking about men playing in women's sports.
