Tiger Woods Stuffs Colin Montgomerie In A Locker After The Scot Calls For Him To Retire Yet Again

Colin Montgomerie is of the opinion that Tiger Woods should have retired from professional golf during the 2022 Open at St. Andrews. The Scot first floated the idea shortly after the conclusion of that year's Open, only to reaffirm his stance ahead of this week's Open at Royal Troon, signaling that he is willing to die on that hill.

Well, figuratively speaking, he is now a dead man.

In 2022, Montgomerie called it a "golden opportunity" for Woods to say goodbye to the game at St. Andrews. To his credit, it would have been a poetic ending to the big cat's career seeing him wave goodbye at the home of golf.

Fast forward two years to the present day, and for whatever reason, Montgomerie elected to doubled down on his claim that Woods should have called it quits while making it abundantly clear he doesn't believe Woods can win on the biggest stage ever again.

"There is a time for all sportsmen to say goodbye, but it’s very difficult to tell Tiger it’s time to go," Montgomerie told The Times. "Obviously, he still feels he can win. We are more realistic."

Montgomerie certainly isn't the only person in the world who believes Woods' winning days are well behind him. Many, myself included, live in reality and have accepted that Woods will never win another major championship.

The difference here is that you and I are not professional golfers who have long competed against Woods running to the press to talk about how Woods should have retired years ago.

Woods was asked about Montgomerie's doubling down of opinion and proceeded to stuff Montgomerie so deep into a locker that he may honestly never be heard from again.

"As a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60. Colin’s not. He’s not a past champion, so he’s not exempt. So he doesn’t get the opportunity to make that decision. I do," Woods said. "So when I get to his age, I get to still make that decision, where he doesn’t."

Damn.

Woods has teed it up just seven times since the ‘22 Open at St. Andrews and has not been a factor in any of those appearances, but he’s earned every right to call it quits however, wherever, and whenever he sees fit.

As for Montgomerie, who is most known for being the ‘everyman’s' golfer who never won a major, one would think he would have gotten over losing to Woods by five shots in the 2005 Open but that doesn't appear to be the case.
