Like It Or Not, The 'Summer Of Olivia Dunne' Is About To Begin As MLB Has Their Taylor Swift
Every Batman needs a Robin. Every Yin needs a Yang. Every MJ needs a Scottie. Every Tiger needs a Phil, and every Dale needs a Jeff.
I could go on and on. I have endless combos in the holster. Don't tempt me.
Assuming you get the picture, let's move forward. While Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift were dominating the NFL last fall, it appears Major League Baseball was taking notes.
Smart. This is a copycat world. The NFL is a gazillion-dollar industry. We should all copy whatever they do.
Anyway, MLB may have their answer. Their very own rockstars. Their shot at bridging the gap between old and young. A way to make the sport cool to Gen-Zers.
Olivia Dunne and Paul Skenes. Livvy and the Ace. Pittsburgh's newest First Lady. PNC Royalty. One of the most popular TikTokers in the land, paired with the most hyped young pitcher since Stephen Strasburg was pumping 100 MPH fastballs in our nation's capitals a decade ago.
Right on cue, the Gen-Z interns running the official MLB social media accounts were ON IT:
Livvy Dunne and Paul Skenes are about to annoy the hell out of you
That's 3 for 3! Hall of Fame numbers right off the bat for young Paul and Livvy.
Twitter? Check.
Instagram? Check!
TikTok (while it's still operational in the US of A)? Check!!!
Now, all we need is for Paul Skenes to actually be good in the majors – and he will be, don't worry – and Major League Baseball may have a real shot at bringing in some new fans this summer.
And look, I was annoyed as hell by the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce stuff last fall. Believe me, it was the worst. But, I never once questioned why the NFL would hype her up.
I mean, duh. Of course they would! She's the most popular person on the planet by a mile and literally saves local economies wherever she plays. Roger Goodell should've been fired on the spot had he not taken advantage of that.
And the same goes with Rob Manfred. Now, is Livvy as popular as Taylor Swift? Nope. But, she's not a bad little consolation prize for Major League Baseball. Millions of young followers across all of her socials, hot, personable, athletic, seems to have her head on straight.
She checks all the right boxes, which is important in this DEI world we live in!
Anyway, all I'm saying is get ready for a summer filled with Livvy Dunne and Paul all over your baseball social feeds. I'm talking camera shots of Dunne for all nine innings every single Skenes start, in-game interviews, first pitches – the whole nine yards.
If they can highlight Livvy, you bet your ass she's getting highlighted.
But hey! At least with this one, her boyfriend won't be screaming at you to get the Pfizer shot between innings.
