Texans WR Tank Dell Shares Frightening Details From Florida Club Shooting

A night out in Florida nearly turned fatal for Houston Texans standout WR Tank Dell.

The sophomore wideout suffered a non-life-threatning gunshot wound on April 27 visiting Sanford, Fla., to see his mother. That night, Dell attended a private event with several longtime friends.

A shooting broke out at Cabana Live between a 16-year-old and an individual, and Dell caught a stray bullet as the minor fired and hit 10 people. All victims survived their wounds. Dell suffered a flesh wound to the side of the leg.

Dell spoke about the frightening incident with Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud during a podcast interview. The 24-year-old's account of the scene revealed how secure the attendees felt at the nightclub before shots popped off.

"My boys saw that I was home so they hit me up and was like ‘pull up to the party,'" Dell shared

"They told me there was going to be security, people getting checked at the door. So I’m like, ‘All right, cool.’ It’s a good vibe, and there was a lot of people that I knew in there, so it was cool. Then that s-t popped off outta nowhere."

C.J. Stroud remembered the phone call that informed him of his teammate's scary situation and shared his reaction at the time.

"All I read was, ‘Tank got shot,’ and I just dropped my phone," Stroud said. "I started tearing up, man. You know, when you hear that, you start thinking the worst."

Security footage released of the shooting featured Dell running away from the altercation as tempers flared between the 16-year-old gunman and the other individual, who also fired shots.  Seminole County Sheriff's Office arrested the young suspect shortly after the event.

Texans coach DeMeco Ryans previously spoke on Dell's improving health. Dell attended Texans practice nearly one month after the shooting occurred.  Dell's season was cut short last year after a fractured fibula injury.

"Happy for Tank to get back out there. He went through a very tragic situation," Ryans said. "We're just happy that he's here, happy that he's back out being able to do what he loves doing and that's playing football. It's fun to see him running around. Being that same player he's been before, making plays and being a dynamic player for us. Everyone is excited to see Tank."

During his chat with reporters on Tuesday, Dell shared that he looks forward to putting the scene past him to no longer re-live the experience.
