Tampa Bay Rays' Jose Siri Destroyed By Michael Kay For Flashy Home Run Celebration
Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Jose Siri felt incredibly pretentious Monday — playing against the New York Yankees — while his team was down big. After hitting his 14th homer of the season, Siri cruised around the bases slowly and mocked the Brooklyn fans with some ‘chirping’ hand gestures.
Siri's celebration after a home run in the fifth inning, down 4-0, ticked off members in the New York dugout, including captain Aaron Judge, who generally does a good job of not putting his emotions out there.
One guy who gave Siri his licks was YES Network broadcaster Michael Kay, who grilled Jose Siri — on his 29th birthday — for his ridiculous HR celebration.
"You’re losing! Celebrate when you’re winning," Kay said during the game. "They’re acting like it’s Mardi Gras in that dugout. You’re losing the game!"
New York took solace with a 9-1 win over the Rays, also tying the four-game series. And it's been a series to remember for Siri, who also homered Sunday, throwing in light taunting. New York skipper Aaron Boone addressed the series' testy nature.
Boone was blunt about the new generation of baseball's propensity for being flashy, in poor taste.
"It’s a new world," he said Monday afternoon. "I look away sometimes. That’s part of it. Guys are going to do what they do. It’s on us, each individual, to handle themselves how they want. If somebody doesn’t like it, it’s on us to keep them in the ballpark."
The Rays players were all over headlines Sunday.
Siri's teammate, Taylor Walls, went viral after celebrating a double hit in the fifth inning with Trump's famous fast pump from his assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.
