Stephen A. Smith Underdelivers On His Promise To Wear A 'Fly' Outfit To Knicks-Pacers Game 7
There are two things we know to be true about Stephen A. Smith: he knows how to get people talking, and he’s a die-hard New York Knicks fan.
Naturally, part of his work assignments for the weekend was to head to Madison Square Garden to watch his Knicks take on the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 of the second round of the NBA Playoffs. Last week, he implored the New York squad to find a way to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2004.
"Here’s the bottom line: there is no tomorrow!" he said. "Get it done Sunday at 3:30 Eastern! Be ready! I don’t give a d–n what you gotta do! Figure it out!"
In addition to delivering the fiery rant, he told the listeners that he was going to wear a "fly" outfit to the game.
He showed up to the Garden dressed in a suit and tie for the occasion, locked in and ready to go for 48 minutes of basketball.
But his wardrobe choice was far from what he promised it to be.
See for yourself.
When I hear the word "fly," I’m thinking a few notches up from a standard suit and tie. Granted, that suit probably cost quite a bit of money, and the white color scheme is solid. But the only eye-catching element of the outfit is the color; there are no designs, logos, or color variation that makes this "fly."
It doesn’t pack the same punch as this outfit worn by Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic during last year's NBA Finals.
Smith should have gone with another option if he really wanted to make a fashion statement.
Unfortunately for Smith, the Knicks are trailing the Pacers 70-55 at halftime. He might need to change into something black if this trend continues.
