Stefon Diggs Isn't Sure Future Is With Buffalo Bills, Taking Things 'Day By Day'
Stefon Diggs is ready to move on — from this past season, that is. Whether the Buffalo Bills are ready to move on from him, though, remains unclear.
While participating in the Pro Bowl Games on Friday, the wide receiver answered questions about his potential future in Buffalo. And he was about as noncommittal as you can be.
"I feel like I take it day by day," he said. "Obviously, there's a lot of changes going on, a lot of things going on. I can't really put the carriage before the horse, you know what I'm saying? But I got a great off-season in front of me to put a lot of work in and kind of build around what we got and what we're doing.
"I can't tell you what the future holds, but I'm still being me."
Asked whether he was ready to move forward with the Bills, Diggs replied, "I'm ready to go no matter which way it goes."
The former All-Pro has four years left on his contract, and he's scheduled to make nearly $20 million for each of the next four seasons. But given his lack of production in the second half of the 2023 season, many have speculated the Bills might just cut their losses.
Stefon Diggs Struggled In The Second Half
Diggs had 70 catches for 834 yards and seven touchdowns through the first nine games — recording at least 100 yards on five different occasions. But in the final eight games of the year, he didn’t have a single 100-yard outing. During that span, he had just 37 catches for 349 yards and a touchdown.
Then, there was that brutal fourth-quarter drop in Buffalo's Divisional Round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
"That's one of the plays I want back. I count that, if I touch it, I drop it. If I get one hand or a finger on it, I count it," Diggs told NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe on Friday. "Just this season in its total, rolling with the punches, first eight games and the last eight games, or nine games, or 10 games, however you dice it, it just was a different picture. And it's something I had to get adjusted to as a teammate, just rolling with the punches, being the best teammate you can be, best player you can be, and keep growing from it."
Buffalo is currently estimated to be more than $50 million over the cap in 2024. Diggs will account for $28 million of that. The cap hit plus a lack of production and growing concerns over locker room drama with quarterback Josh Allen? Not a promising combo for Diggs' future in Buffalo.
"I don't know, I feel like you talk about the money and all that type of stuff, I can't control none of that," Diggs said. "I kinda just put my hat on and, like I said, it's a long off-season in front of me. As far as what the future holds, shoot, I don't have any surprises for you right now."
