Matthew Stafford's Wife Causes Trouble In Interview; Apologizes To Smeared Former Georgia Backup QB
Kelly Stafford's comments about the early days of her relationship with Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford certainly made some waves. Stafford, for background, said in a recent interview that she attempted to make Matt jealous by going out with the Georgia Bulldogs' backup quarterback.

"It wasn’t that cute of a relationship at first," Stafford said. "I hated him, I loved him. I dated the backup to piss him off, which worked — he was the bad boy too. Matthew’s so sweet and a Southern gentleman and all that stuff. And the backup was the complete opposite, and it upset him."
That put the entirety of the football internet to work, attempting to locate who she might be referring to. And sure enough, they soon locked in on former Bulldogs quarterback Joe Cox. Naturally, Fox then received an inordinate amount of hatred and criticism.
And now Stafford has issued a public apology for the negative attention directed at Cox as a result of her interview.

"To this beautiful fam…I’m sorry for the media storm that happened last week that made its way into your lives. You had zero involvement in what I spoke about and, in fact, it was was ya’lls relationship in college that I looked up to and wanted to be in college."
If Cox wasn't the party she was referring to though, who was?
Perhaps Stafford just wanted to take the attention off of Cox after her interview; or maybe he really was never involved. Regardless, the obvious move here is to just not specifically reference past relationships in prominent interviews when you're involved with one of the most famous players in the NFL.
