Sports Bar Exclusively Dedicated To Women's Sports Celebrates Boy Winning Girls' Race

There's a sports bar in Portland, Ore., called "The Sports Bra." Its website promotes it as "The sports bar that’s 100% dedicated to women’s sports."

That's what makes it odd that the bar posted congratulations on its Instagram page to a transgender athlete (biological male) who won an Oregon high school state championship race in the girls division.

Along with a photo of the athlete atop the podium, towering over the biological females that the athlete defeated, the bar posted a lengthy message.

The post read, in part, "To Aayden, her loving family, friends and to all trans athletes everywhere… WE SUPPORT YOU!!"

Note: While the post originally allowed comments, it appears the comments are now turned off.

In addition to being "100% dedicated to women's sports," the bar's official website also has messages like "We support women" and says its mission is to "make great food, delicious drinks, and provide a space that supports, empowers, and promotes girls and women in sports and in the community."

Seems odd, then, to celebrate a male winning a girls' race and taking away spots from the hard-working high school girls.

OutKick reached out to The Sports Bra to ask if it believed that celebrating a biological male winning a girls' race contradicts its mission statement. We will update if/when anyone returns our request for comment.

Here's another ironic message from the bar's website: "We also welcome kids, as we believe exposing them to women’s sports can have lasting impacts on their understanding of equity in sports and in life."

Ah, interesting. So the bar wants little girls to understand at an early age that if boys want to become girls, the girls should step aside and allow those boys to take their spots on girls' teams? That seems like a strange message to send to the young girls that they claim to support, doesn't it?

Last month, Alexis Ohanian – who is married to women's tennis champion Serena Williams – made a sizable investment in the bar.

It's crazy to see people who know better than anyone how unfair it is to allow males in female sports support such craziness. But, here we are.
