Social Media Thinks NCAA Tournament Selection Committee Had Its Worst Year Ever
The 2024 NCAA Tournament is almost here and the bracket is set. The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee locked itself in a conference room, argued for hours and eventually decided the teams in the 2024 March Madness tournament.
And, as usual, people took to social media to complain. To be fair to those people, this year's bracket is pretty controversial. Every year, there are teams that get left out of the NCAA Tournament. It's expected.
But for 2024, there were A LOT of questionable snubs. Part of the problem is that the conference tournaments were a bloodbath. Oh, sorry, I forgot that bloodbath is now an offensive term. Uh, OK, let me try again.
The conference tournaments this year resulted in a lot of surprising outcomes in which the teams that were favored to win did not win, which led to a lot of teams that probably didn't belong in the NCAA Tournament receiving automatic bids for the NCAA Tournament. Better? Good.
Let's look at some of the biggest complaints…
The Mountain West gets six teams in the NCAA Tournament, but the Big East only has three.
Why does the East Region have practically all the major conference champions in it?
Michigan State and Virginia made the NCAA Tournament, while better teams were left out.
Most importantly: the NCAA Selection Committee snubbed Indiana State, which means the country doesn't get to see Robbie Avila, a.k.a. "Cream Abdul-Jabbar," in the NCAA Tournament.
At the end of the day, these complaints only really carry for like two days. On Tuesday, the First Four tips off and the NCAA Tournament starts, and we all turn our attention to our own brackets.
And I wouldn't have it any other way.
