Social Media Delivered Some Incredible Jokes Following Scottie Scheffler Arrest

Shortly before the start of the second round of the PGA Championship, the #1 golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, was arrested by police

Unfortunately, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a shuttle bus in the early hours Friday morning, which is what caused the unusual traffic patterns and created the situation that eventually led to Scheffler's arrest.

Police charged Scheffler with a felony, second degree assault of a police officer, along with three other charges

However, Scheffler was released from jail and headed straight to Valhalla Golf Club to continue his quest for his first PGA Championship victory.

Scheffler released a statement and said the incident was due to a "misunderstanding" and he offered condolences to the family who lost their loved one in the tragic accident on Friday morning in Louisville, Kentucky.

While we can't lose sight of the seriousness of the situation – a person lost his life and Scheffler is facing four criminal charges – there's also the old adage that "laughter is the best medicine."

In that vein, social media users immediately went to work making jokes about the Scottie Scheffler situation and some of them were downright hilarious.

Here's a roundup of some of the best ones we saw:

"Detective Gillis’ uniform pants, valued at approximately $80, were damaged beyond repair."

Sometimes in life, you just have to laugh. On Friday morning, X (formerly Twitter) users knew what the assignment was and immediately got to work.

One thing America does better than any country in the world: comedy.

Of course, Scottie Scheffler showed up to the PGA Championship, made his tee time, and promptly made birdie on his first hole of the second round.

If he can put what happened on Friday morning out of his mind and somehow win the PGA Championship, it would be one of the greatest performances in sports history.

I don't think that's hyperbole.
