Puff, Puff, Pass The Torch: Snoop Dogg Is An Olympic Torch Bearer

One of the last legs of the Olympic torch relay is going to be done with a dash of Doggystyle.

The Olympic torch is en route to Paris for the official start of the Olympic games (even though some events like soccer and rugby are well underway) and one of the torch-bearers on the final leg of the journey will be none other than the Doggfather himself, Snoop Dogg.

Snoop D-O-Double-G is part of the team that NBC is sending across the pond to the City of Lights to cover the Games and will be part of the last leg of the relay before the torch arrives at the Eiffel Tower in Saint-Denis.

Mathieu Hanotin, the Mayor of Saint-Denis made the announcement earlier this week that Snoop had been bestowed the great honor of carrying the torch.

That's a big honor and I wouldn't be surprised if we see Snoop handling torch duties at two straight Summer Games, something that could be unprecedented (or completely unprecedented; I don't know).

The 2028 Summer Games will take place in Los Angeles and Snoop is famously an LA guy. Now that he'll have some experience torch-bearing, I think he's a shoo-in to make the roster in the late stages of the relay to LA in four years.

It's very cool that he'll get some reps in abroad so that his first time running with a giant flame comes abroad without the pressures of doing it on his home turf.

Speaking of which, I don't know that we ever talk about how weirdly dangerous running with the torch is. It seems like it'd be easy to trip and light yourself on fire and ruin the start of the Olympics at the same time.

The stakes are very high.

But if there's a guy who's comfortable around a little smoke, it's Snoop Dogg, so I'm sure he'll do a hell of a job.
