SMU Donors Had To Bus To Playoff Game At Penn State And Missed First Quarter; Probably Wish They Missed More

Some SMU donors got an expected tour of the Keystone State when their flight to State College to see the Mustangs take on the Penn State Nittany Lions in the first round of the College Football Playoff was diverted to Williamsport and they had to take a bus to Beaver Stadium.

The ordeal reportedly caused them to miss the first quarter, although considering how the game panned out for the Mustangs, they probably wish they had missed a bit more.

Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger posted the story on X Saturday afternoon.

Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you, that's pro golfer Bryson DeChambeau on the left.

These folks were cutting it a bit close, to begin with. It's only about an hour from Williamsport to State College, but as you can see in the photo, they made the most of it.

In a way, it worked out better for them. The party buss session from the State College airport to Beaver Stadium? Probably not more than 20 minutes.

But they got a full 60 minutes of bus boozing, and that has to count for something.

Unfortunately, when they got to the stadium, they had to watch the Mustangs just get absolutely throttled by the Nittany Lions, 38-10.

I mean, this probably wouldn't be a great look, but I bet if they knew the outcome of this game at least a couple of donors would have said, "Y'know what? I'm going to hang out in Williamsport. Pick me up at the Little League museum(which is great, by the way)."

Props to them for keeping the mood light when most of us would have been pretty angry about the travel delay. I know I would be.

Unfortunately for the Mustangs, their season is over, while Penn State will move on to the Fiesta Bowl where they'll take on Heisman Trophy finalist Ashton Jeanty and — another horse team — the Boise State Broncos.
