Serena Williams Calls Out Harrison Butker At ESPYS, Says 'We Don't Need You' With Kicker In Attendance
The 2024 ESPYS took place on Thursday night. If this is the first time you're hearing that news, you're most certainly not alone. The sports award show featuring enough woke flavor that may even put a smile on the face of Keith Olbermann was hosted by Serena Williams, and the tennis legend didn't waste her opportunity to call out Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker.
During a segment highlighting women's sports, Williams was joined on stage by her sister, Venus, as well as actress Quinta Brunson. After the trio did a few ‘comedy’ bits that folks in the audience had to force themselves to laugh at, Venus began closing out the segment by saying "Go ahead and enjoy women's sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports."
What a convincing pitch!
This is when Serena mentioned Butker, who was in attendance, by saying, "Except you, Harrison Butker, we don't need you." Brunson responded by saying "At all, like, ever" which was met with applause and maybe a few boos as well.
Serena's comment about Butker is in reaction to the commencement speech he gave a full two months ago at Benedictine College, a catholic school in Kansas.
His speech featured shots at Pride Month and President Joe Biden, among other hot-button topics, and lifted women as wives, mothers, and "homemakers."
It was Butker's women-focused comments that infuriated the masses the most.
"I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you," Butker said. "Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.
"I'm beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all. Homemaker," he continued.
Butker essentially ripped apart the playbook that the liberal, all-things diversity and inclusion crowd has been using for years. Given that the NFL has adopted that same playbook, like just about every other professional sports league, the league didn't appreciate Butker's commencement speech.
