Sean Payton Takes A Swig Of Vodka And Gives Putin A Run For His Money With This Russell Wilson Response
If you thought Vladimir Putin giving the world the longest history lesson in the history of time Thursday night was a roller coaster, just wait until you hear Sean Payton dance around this Russell Wilson question.
The second-year Denver Broncos coach hopped on OutKick OG Kay Adams' Up & Adams show Friday live from Las Vegas and, being the intrepid reporter she is, Adams started out the interview by addressing the unlimited-sized elephant in the room …
What's the plan with Russell Wilson?
Payton took a nice swig of Vodka – which I assume anyone would do when asked about Russell Wilson – and then uncorked a masterclass of a response:
Sean Payton asked about Russell Wilson and gives doozy of a response
Whoaaaaaaa Nellie! What an answer from Sean Payton. He said so many words and also said nothing at the same time.
That's Lawyer 101, baby! Ain't Sean's first rodeo. An absolute masterclass put on right there by one of the NFL's best coaches. I don't even particularly like Sean Payton, but credit where credit is due on this one.
So, the backstory here is pretty simple, and pretty public: Russell Wilson was benched late in the year after winning five in a row, and later said the Broncos actually warned him this would happen MONTHS earlier during their bye week.
And it came after a huge upset win over Kansas City:
Not great – and, perhaps, not kosher.
The NFLPA came out two days ago and said it wasn't buying what Denver was selling, siding with Russ in this inevitable divorce:
Anyway, fast-forward to Friday when Queen Kay Adams sat down with Sean Payton, and we all knew he would get asked about his … experience … with the great Russell Wilson.
I'm not sure any of us, however, knew we would get that sort of response. Again, a rollercoaster from start to finish.
We get the history lesson right off the bat, which was the perfect start. Need the context before we really get going.
After that, we start talking about puzzles, theoretical NFL van rides, Cabo trips with Jared Goff and even a couple cameos from Alvin Kamara and Taysom Hill.
Again, a masterclass here from Sean Payton. It's like when a test question says you need "at least 1,000 words for a response" but it really only takes 10 to say it.
He did sneak in a couple notable soundbites there – including the fact that the decison will come "quicker relative to Russ" – but all in all, a big nothing-burger from one of the best to ever do it. Kudos.
