Seahawks WR DK Metcalf Heckled By High Schooler, Ex-NFLer Shawne Merriman Calls Out Generation of Trolls
Kids say the darndest things.
A video of Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf went around social media on Wednesday, showing a testy interaction between him and a heckling high schooler.
In all fairness, the kid was a total nuisance. He shouted at Metcalf that Jalen Ramsey, former Rams cornerback, was his "dad," setting off the physically superior Metcalf.
Metcalf shares a beef with Ramsey, which didn't make him fond of the pestering kid's comment.
"Jalen Ramsey's your dad," the kid yelled out.
DK responded by walking up to the kid who was joined by a group of fellow teens. "Why you say that?" Metcalf asked.
"Because of the film," the kid said.
Metcalf put a fork in it, leaving after he asked the kid "And who are you?" which got a bit of a reaction from the crowd. Even with Metcalf's history of over-the-top reactions, the kid was clearly in the wrong for being an absolute goober. "Good luck to you, bro," the kid said, signing off.
Shawne Merriman, Ex-NFLer, Joins The Conversation
Former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman applauded Metcalf — a 6-foot-4, 238-lb. football player — for standing his ground.
Merriman was glad to see Metcalf respond to trolls, acknowledging the increasing disrespect that athletes get from newer generations of sports fans.
Merriman caught the video and sounded off on the new generation's cavalier attitude toward pro athletes and adults in general.
Many have expressed Merriman's sentiment, often blaming social media for influencing kids' need for attention.
The former Charger posted on X: "It’s getting worse and worse out here, I couldn’t imagine approaching any pro athlete like this growing up. It would’ve been a privilege just to meet them and ask questions. Great job, @dkm14 handling that [sic]."
