Scottie Scheffler Wins Travelers Championship After Idiot Protesters Interrupt Final Hole
Another week, another win on the PGA Tour for the world's No. 1 golfer, Scottie Scheffler, who won the Travelers Championship by one shot. He bested one of his closest friends on the PGA Tour, Tom Kim, who was bidding for his fourth career victory.
But the story of the tournament is what happened on the 72nd hole. With Scheffler leading Kim by one shot, protesters rushed the 18th green before either player could hit their third shots.
Despite the interruption, Kim managed to bury his birdie putt after Scheffler missed his attempt to win the tournament outright.
Unfortunately for Kim, he couldn't keep the momentum rolling in the playoff. After both players hit the fairways with their drives, Scheffler hit one in close. That put the pressure on Kim, but he flared his approach to the right and buried his ball in the greenside bunker.
The terrible lie left him no choice but to get the ball well past the hole, which led to a bogey. All Scheffler had to do was two-putt for the Travelers Championship, and he did exactly that.
Scottie Scheffler beats good friend, and birthday buddy, Tom Kim to win Travelers Championship.
Scheffler and Kim share a birthday, which came Friday (June 21), and the pair have a yearly tradition of celebrating together with pizza.
The two seemed to be having a good time together Sunday, despite battling each other for the Travelers Championship, which came with a $3.6 million prize for the winner. Scheffler continues to rake in the cash, having won six events this season and all of them coming in either signature events or majors.
Scheffler is closing in on $30 million won this year with the Open Championship and FedEx Playoffs still to go. He is obliterating his competition on a weekly basis and Sunday was no exception. He is the first player to win six times on the PGA Tour before the month of July.
There's one major left on the PGA Tour schedule this season with the Open Championship next month. Scheffler is a two-time Masters champion, but hasn't been able to capture any of the other three majors… yet.
He'll take another run at one in about four weeks and I certainly wouldn't bet against him.
