Scottie Scheffler Has No Plans Of Slowing Down, But Says Golf Will Become Fourth Priority As A First-Time Dad
Life changed for Scottie Scheffler on Sunday when he slid on a green jacket for the second time in his career at Augusta National, but that won't come close to the life-changing moment he and wife Meredith will soon share when they welcome their first child into the world.
Prior to the opening round of the 2024 Masters, it was reported that Scheffler had made the decision to withdraw from the major championship if his wife were to go into labor during the tournament. Meredith did not make the trip to Augusta and stayed home in Dallas with her due date just three weeks away.
Baby Scheffler decided not to arrive during their dad's second Masters victory, and now that the job is done at Augusta National, Scheffler is ready to put on his dad cap. The world's top-ranked player is also fully aware that golf is going to take a bit of a backseat for a bit, and for him, that means the game will be fourth on his priority list behind his faith, wife, and newborn.
Scottie Scheffler New Priorities Explained
Fatherhood, however, isn't going to cause him to take his foot off the gas while he's on a historic run at the moment, at least he doesn't think it will.
"Well, I'm definitely not going to intentionally take my eye off the ball. I will go home, soak in this victory tonight. Will definitely enjoy the birth of my first child. But with that being said, I still love competing," Scheffler told the media at the Masters on Sunday evening. "My priorities will change here very soon. My son or daughter will now be the main priority, along with my wife, so golf will now be probably fourth in line.
"But I still love competing. I don't plan on taking my eye off the ball anytime soon, that's for sure."
Scheffler isn't someone who lacks perspective. He has two green jackets in his closet, is by far and away the best player in the world at this point in time, and seems to be among the most-selfless professional athletes of his generation.
Scheffler's perspective cup is already filled to the rim, but it will soon be overflowing when he becomes a father for the first time in the coming days.
