Scottie Scheffler Claims Police Officer 'Hit' Him, Seemingly Admits To Dragging Cop With His Car In New Video

A video of Scottie Scheffler sitting in handcuffs in the back of a police car following his arrest at the PGA Championship in Louisville earlier this month has surfaced. The video shows Scheffler speaking with a police officer with him sharing his recollection of what took place. He also discusses the accusation that he dragged an officer with his car after he allegedly ignored his instructions to stop his vehicle.

The Louisville Metro Police Department released two videos following a joint press conference with Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg and Police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroe. Both confirmed that there was no bodycam footage from officer Bryan Gillis, who allegedly instructed Scheffler to stop his vehicle, before releasing one video taken from the dashcam of a police car and another from a nearby light post.

As it turns out, there was bodycam footage recorded by an officer who spoke with Scheffler while he was in handcuffs. Louisville Metro PD did not release the video, but Maxwell Mitchell was able to upload it to Facebook on May 23, the same day the mayor and police chief held their press conference together.

After Scheffler had his Miranda rights read to him, he shared his side of what transpired in the lead-up to his arrest.

"As I was pulling in, my window was down, and the officer told me to stop," Scheffler stated. "First of all, I did not know he was a police officer, I thought he was one of the security guards, I was mistaken."

The officer didn't appreciate Scheffler confusing an officer with a security guard and went on an asinine tangent about how that didn't matter. Nevertheless, Scheffler agreed with him.

"You're right, I should have stopped. I did get a little bit impatient because I'm quite late for my tee time," Scheffler said. "As he was reaching into the car, he grabbed my shoulder and hit me. It seemed to be a little bit overaggressive, because the entrance (to the golf course) was open."

"I pulled up a little bit because I didn't know if he was going to start hitting me. I didn't know who he was, he didn't tell me he was a police officer," Scheffler continued.

The officer cut Scheffler off in that moment, claiming "if someone is telling you to stop, no matter who it is, you don't keep going."

Scottie Scheffler Appears To Admit He ‘Took' An Officer With His Car

This led the officer to then explain that the officer who attempted to stop Scheffler had been "dragged" and injured.

"So what happened is, you kept going, and you took him with you, while he's a pedestrian," the officer said. "You took him with your car," to which Scheffler can be heard saying "yes" after that statement.

"To make it even worse, when he asked you to get out of the car, you refused to get out of the car," the officer said, to which Scheffler replied "I still did not realize he was a police officer, I was actually looking out of the car to find a police officer."

"If I knew he was a police officer, I would have been much more less afraid. Panic sort of set in, as you can see I'm still shaking," Scheffler explained. "I was afraid, he didn't say who he was…He just hit me with his flashlight and yelled ‘get out of the car.’"

"You actually hurt him, and he's a police officer," the officer said, referring to Gillis. "He's got a huge scrape on his knee, getting checked out by EMS, has a big bruise. For you right now, the only question is if you're going to jail, and it's up to him."

Detective Gillis is noted in the arrest report, which states that he sustained injuries and damage to the pants he was wearing moments before the arrest. The report also described Gillis as being "dragged" by Scheffler's car.

"Detective Gillis stopped subject and attempted to give instruction," the report reads in part. "Subject refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging Detective Gillis to the ground. Detective Gillis suffered pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knees. He was transported to the hospital for further medical treatment by emergency medical personnel. Detective Gillis' uniform pants, valued at approximately $80 were damaged beyond repair."

Scheffler was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer (a felony), criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.
