Russell Wilson Ingratiates Himself With Pittsburgh, Takes BP With Pirates
Russell Wilson, like anyone who just went through a bad breakup (Denver? Never heard of it…), has moved to a new city and is now trying to fit in with the local folk.
By "local folk, I mean the Pittsburgh Pirates.
As you may recall, in addition to being a hell of a quarterback (except for most of his stint in Denver. Phew, crack a window!) Wilson is also a heck of a baseball player. He was drafted twice, first by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2007 MLB Draft and the Colorado Rockies in the 2010 MLB Draft, and then went on to play some Single-A ball.
So, what better way to ingratiate yourself with your new city than by taking some cuts in BP?
You've got to hand it to him: that's a Big League swing. If you were watching batting practice and didn't know any better, you'd just assume that was a Pirates regular at the dish.
That's not some dude who rolled into the local batting cage to try to recapture some of that high school baseball glory.
The Pirates are off to a decent start this season and are just one game back from the Cubs and Brewers for the top spot in the NL Central. I say this because, it means an awkward "So, if you need anything to do until camp starts up…" conversation probably won't be happening.
Wilson signed with the Steelers after getting dumped by the Broncos earlier this year, and will share a quarterback room with Justin Fields, who was traded out of Chicago to make way for Caleb Williams.
The hope is a Super Champ like Wilson can help the Steelers take the next step after they used three relatively inexperienced quarterbacks in an improbable run to the postseason that ended in a loss to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round.
