Quinn Ewers Gets Honest About Arch Manning Not Transferring
Quinn Ewers thinks Arch Manning did the right thing by not transferring from the Texas Longhorns.
Manning spent last season glued to the bench buried on the depth chart behind Ewers and QB2 Maalik Murphy. The former five star recruit was elevated to QB2 when Murphy transferred out of Austin, and it's clear he's the QB of the future for Steve Sarkisian.
However, there will be at least one more season on the bench for Manning after Ewers decided to return for another season of college football over going to the NFL.
Quinn Ewers discusses Arch Manning's decision to not transfer.
Arch Manning could have hopped in the portal as soon as Ewers announced that he was returning. That's not what the former prep phenom did. He decided to stick around and develop for another season on the bench. Ewers thinks it's going to turn into a very positive call for Arch.
"I think he understands that what he’s got here is he’s gonna be the most ready whenever he goes to the NFL. I think coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian) does the best job getting quarterbacks ready for the NFL and developing guys. (Manning will) be playing in his third year. He’ll be more than comfortable in operating the offense, and it’s just a really good fit for him," Ewers told The Athletic when talking about Manning's decision to stick around as QB2.
The star Texas passer also praised Arch Manning's patience when he added, "I think his actions definitely go to show that the kid’s got some patience, for sure. I know it’s tough, because when I went to Ohio State, obviously it’s tough sitting behind somebody."
Lots of college football fans want to complain and whine about Arch not seeing the field. I understand. He left high school as arguably the most-hyped football recruit in the history of the sport. Guys with that kind of noise around them usually play right away.
Arch took a redshirt season last year and threw a total of five passes for 30 yards. Many thought Ewers would leave for the NFL, but with him back in Austin, Arch will have to settle for the QB2 role.
There's nothing wrong with that. Have some patience, let the young man develop and by next year, he should be more than ready to roll in Steve Sarkisian's offense. Think Arch should be playing sooner? Content with him taking another year to develop as a backup? Let me know at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
