New Jersey Teen Gets Promposal Assist From Bryce Harper, Sets Bar Impossibly High For School Chums

A New Jersey high schooler just executed a promposal that will make those "Will You Go To Prom With Me?" poster boards assembled after a hasty trip to Michael's Arts & Crafts looking like flaming piles of donkey excrement thanks to a little help from Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper.

According to Fox 29 Philadelphia, Jake Portello, a senior at Haddonfield Memorial High School, had plans to ask a young lady named Giulia to prom. Unfortunately, in this day and age, you can't just ask her to the Enchantment Under The Seas Dance while she's cramming algebra books in her locker.

So, Portello did what any youngster who happened to live near an MLB superstar would do and knocked on his door asking for an assist.

"I knocked on his door, he seemed cool with it at first, then he was like, ‘Can I get your email so we can plan this out?’ and as I was leaving he was like, ‘Why don’t we do this right now," Portello said in an interview with Fox 29's The Phantastic Sports Show.

And "do this right now" they did…

Success.

Quietly my favorite part of that video is a guy you've got to assume is Giulia's old man sneaking out the front door while everyone is celebrating the promposal to press the flesh with Harper. Just a flawlessly executed pro move.

This was awesome, and everyone is eating it up, but do you know who I would be willing to bet deep down is not loving this? Every fella in Haddonfield (not to be confused with the fictional Haddonfield, Illinois from the Halloween franchise) who has yet to pull off their proposal.

The Haddonfield Memorial High School Promoposal Bar Is Absurdly High Right Now

The bar is now incredibly high, and sure, while not everyone has an MLB superstar neighbor, the cute girl in your chemistry class may not be as fired up when you hand her a bouquet and a tray of your mom's signature Rice Krispies Treats.

Don't get me wrong, Rice Krispies treats kick ass and she'll still agree to go dance awkwardly with you at the prom on June 14 (which seems weirdly late to me), but Giulia had Phillies star Bryce Harper show up at her house.

Do you realize how cool that is? Has Bryce Harper been to your house?

I rest my case…

So, unless someone can figure out where Jersey native Mike Trout is rehabbing his knee and can get him to help you out, Portello set the bar impossibly high.

But good for Jake. He got the prom date and gave her a surprise she'll never forget ahead of one of the biggest nights of the high school calendar.
