Pirates' Aroldis Chapman Slams Glove After Mistakenly Believing He Gave Up Home Run

Pittsburgh Pirates reliever Aroldis Chapman flipped his lid after giving up a big hit, which he assumed would be the game-tying home run, facing the Dodgers on Tuesday.

In the eighth inning, with a 1-0 Pirates lead, Chapman faced a sneaky good slugger in Teoscar Hernandez. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Hernandez popped the ball deep into center field.

As the ball soared, Aroldis slammed his glove to the ground, thinking he'd blown the save situation. Luckily for Pittsburgh and Chapman, the ball only made it as far as the warning track, where center fielder Jack Suwinsky tracked the ball for the second out of the inning.

Fans on social media recalled Aroldis's days with the Yankees, when he infamously gave up a two-run homer to Houston Astros' Jose Altuve to secure the team's spot in the World Series in 2021. (Some argue that moment ended in a great headache for Altuve and Houston.)

Chapman dodged a homer, but his teammates still nudged him over, losing his cool on the mound. Pirates vet Andrew McCutchen poked fun at Chaman in the dugout, recreating his glove-slamming moment.

The Pirates held on for the 1-0 win.
