Philadelphia 76ers Owners Buy Thousands of Tickets For Game 6 To Keep Knicks Fans Away
In an attempt to keep New York Knicks fans from taking over the Wells Fargo Center again, the 76ers owners banded together to buy 2,000 tickets to tonight's Game 6 which they plan to give to Philly fans for free.
Sixers managing partners Josh Harris and David Blitzer, along with limited partner David Adelman and Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin scooped up the tickets ahead of the pivotal matchup where Philadelphia faces a must-win situation trailing the New York Knicks in the best-of-seven series.
"We absolutely cannot let Knicks fans take over our arena again!!!" Rubin tweeted out after his team and the city of Philadelphia got absolutely rocked by Knicks fans during Game 4 as the Wells Fargo Center seemingly became Madison Square Garden with New Yorkers stomping on the Sixers' grave.
This is what Sixers owners are trying not to allow to happen again tonight:
EVEN SIXERS PLAYERS WEREN'T HAPPY
Hell, even Joel Embiid ripped the city of Philly for their pathetic showing.
"It is disappointing to have a lot of Knicks fans… it kind of pisses me off, especially because Philly is a considered a sports town… and this isn't okay," Embiid told reporters after the Sixers lost Game 4.
WILL IT WORK?
Rubin and the rest of the Sixers owners say that the 2,000 tickets they've purchased will be distributed to first responders and other local community groups.
We'll see if it works to Philadelphia's advantage.
Currently, secondary tickets are going for hundreds of dollars just for standing room only. When you combine that with a 9pm ET tip-off time, you can expect not as many New York Knicks fans to make the trip.
In the end, however, it's up to the players on the court to get the job done - something that both fanbases need their teams to do tonight.
