PGA Tour Pro Says Cam Smith, Marc Leishman Joining LIV Golf Is A Done Deal: 'They're Gone'
Rumors have been circulating that Cam Smith could be joining LIV Golf. Now, a fellow PGA Tour player says that move is already a done deal, and he's bringing another Aussie with him. PGA Tour veteran Cam Percy recently joined RSN Radio and was asked about the rumors of Smith and fellow countryman Marc Leishman making the jump to the Saudi-backed circuit. His answer was blunt, "Unfortunately, yeah, they're gone," Percy said. Based on how Smith recently reacted to a question about joining LIV Golf, Percy's comments here shouldn't be too big a surprise. Less than 24 hours after Smith dominated the back nine at St. Andrews to win The Open, he was linked to LIV Golf. Smith, now the No. 2 player in the world, was pressed by the media to address the rumors and speculation. The question made him frustrated, but by no means did he completely shut down the idea that he may be the next golfer to make the move. “I just won the British Open, and you’re asking about that. I think that’s pretty not that good,” Smith said. “I don’t know, mate. My team around me worries about all that stuff. I’m here to win golf tournaments.” It goes without saying that Smith's comment about how his team is who worries about that stuff is an extremely odd remark. The PGA Tour possibly losing the No. 2 player in the world and the defending Players champion to LIV Golf would be the biggest blow for the Tour yet. It's been reported that Smith has been offered $90 million to join the Saudi tour.
When Could Smith And Leishman Join LIV Golf?
While Smith and Leishman joining LIV Golf is still based on reports and rumors, many have circled one date as to when they, and others, could leave the PGA Tour. It's inevitable that players will join LIV Golf following the conclusion of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, which begin this week and end on August 28. As for Smith, Leishman, and other international players, they could be waiting until the conclusion of the Presidents Cup in late September.
