Patrick Mahomes' Dad Can Still Go To Super Bowl Despite Arrest
The elder Mahomes may not possess or consume alcohol, and he'll have to submit to random testing.
Despite his arrest over the weekend, Pat Mahomes Sr. will still be allowed to travel to Las Vegas to watch his son play in the Super Bowl.
Mahomes Sr. was arrested for driving while intoxicated late Saturday night in Smith County, Texas. This is at least the third DWI arrest for the father of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.
Judge James Meredith told TMZ Sports he didn't impose a travel ban on Pat as part of his bond conditions. It makes you wonder if someone whose kid wasn't a superstar NFL quarterback would get the same leniency after a third DWI.
The elder Mahomes will face some restrictions, though. Officials say he may not possess or consume any alcohol or illegal drugs. Pat did not lose his license, but he'll be required to have a breathalyzer installed in his car and submit to random testing.
So much for living it up in Sin City.
Pat Sr. was reportedly arrested back in 2019 for his second DUI and was sentenced to 40 days in jail. He served time on weekends to fulfill the requirement.
Not that there's ever a good time for a DWI arrest, but Mahomes' timing is especially bad. His son Patrick and the Chiefs are preparing to compete against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII this weekend. And after the quarterback's brother, Jackson Mahomes, was arrested and charged with aggravated sexual battery in May, the family didn't need any more legal problems.
The two-time MVP QB has not yet commented on his father's arrest, but he'll face the media Monday evening as part of Super Bowl Opening Night. And right about now, he's probably longing for the days when the media only wanted to talk about Taylor Swift.
