Everyone Is Excited About Patrick Kane's Return To Chicago, Including New Blackhawks Superstar Connor Bedard
Patrick Kane is a bonafide Chicago Blackhawks legend having been one of the two centerpieces — along with Jonathan Toews — that helped the team win Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013, and 2015.
Sure, guys like Duncan Keith and Brent Seabrook were integral too, but Kane and Toews were the guys.
That's what made it such a monumental moment in franchise history when the Blackhawks decided to deal Kane to the Rangers last year at the trade deadline, and then not re-sign Toews after the season.
Kane has since signed with the Detroit Red Wings, who will visit the United Center on Sunday.
So, understandably, everyone is pretty excited about the big night, but that includes the heir apparent (more than apparent; he's the real deal) Connor Bedard.
The 18-year-old who took up the mantle this season as the face of the Blackhawks told reporters that he's so excited to see Kane's return having watched all of his highlights online when he was growing up.
Bedard also uttered a sentence never before said in human history: "I'm just pumped for the video tribute."
"Like you said we're not looking forward too much, y'know, we've got some games," Bedard told a reporter. "I'm just pumped for the video tribute, I think it's going to be pretty nasty. He had some sick highlights."
Alright, so maybe a Patrick Kane tribute video featuring a bunch of his greatest highlights would be pretty cool.
I'd like to see them leave out his overtime goal in Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final, but I have a feeling that will make the cut.
There are plenty of great moments to choose from. The Blackhawks selected Kane with the first-overall pick in the 2007 NHL Draft. He spent the better part of the 16 seasons in Chicago after that. Don't be surprised to see Kane back in Chicago sometime down the line to see his No. 88 raised to the rafters.
And, speaking of which…
Bedard also mentioned another thing that will make Sunday's game so memorable: it's the night that the Blackhawks will retire legendary defenseman Chris Chelios' jersey.
Man, big night for the Americans!
