Pat McAfee Rips ESPN's Top Athletes List: 'What a S--tshow'

ESPN's voice of reason, Pat McAfee, has once again called out the network for its own self-sabotage.

As I've previously written, it feels like McAfee lambastes his home broadcast network every few weeks to put it on notice, most recently with his criticism of Prince Harry getting the Pat Tillman Service Award at this year's ESPYs. But it's not Pat's fault, as he's just reacting to what ESPN has and continues to do.

The latest call-out by McAfee, however, had to do with ESPN's Top 100 Athletes list; something that, of course, would be a bit controversial, as all GOAT list arguments go, but McAfee couldn't believe that ESPN screwed up this royally (Pardon the pun, Prince Harry.)

PAT MCAFEE RIPS ESPN OVER INSANE TOP 100 ATHLETES LIST

"There is a top 100 list that is coming out from ESPN's people and I'll tell ya what, it is the epitome of everything that everybody hates about ESPN," McAfee began. "What they chose to do about ranking the top 100 athletes of the 21st century… what a sh** show. What an absolute, terrible list."

Pat's not wrong - and ESPN has only released its 100-51 athlete names so far!

Some questionable decisions include having former Texas Rangers outfielder Adrian Beltre, who was a 4x All-Star and 5x Gold Glove winner as well as hitting 455 home runs (fifth most since 2000) ranked at No. 52 while New York Yankees 5x World Series Champion and 5x All-Star Derek Jeter was ranked No. 53. To make matters even more absurd, the NHL's Washington Capital's left winger Alex Ovechkin - who is second all-time with 853 goals and one of the greatest players of all time was No. 54!

Want more?

Just two spots later, coming in at No. 56 is Spanish female soccer player Alexia Patellas! Say what? Huh?

Other notable genius decisions include Kawhi Leonard at No. 85, a good TWELVE spots before Aaron Rodgers. But of course he would be, considering some at ESPN absolutely detest Rodgers (not to mention angry sportswriters as well.)

So what exactly was the criteria that ESPN looked into before going with this wild list?

Accounting only for athletic accomplishments since January 1, 2000, ESPN.com utilized a panel of experts and ESPN’s renowned Stats & Information Group to rank the top 100 athletes across all sports. More than 75,000 votes were cast by ESPN’s reporters, analysts, producers, editors, and experts around the globe to whittle the initial list of 400 athletes to 100," ESPN.com explained.

I'm not sure who these experts were, but ESPN didn't call me and, based on Pat McAfee's reaction - they didn't call him either.

You can look at the first half of ESPN's Top 100 Professional Athletes list here… but I would suggest making sure you have a drink nearby, because God knows you'll need it.
