Oakland A's Pitcher Mason Miller Fractures Hand In Freak Injury

One of the few bright spots on the Oakland A's roster will be out of action for the near future after fracturing his left hand in a freak accident this week. What else can we expect from the A's at this point …

All-Star right-handed closer Mason Miller suffered a fractured left pinkie finger on Monday and was placed on the A's 15-day injured list, announced by the club on Thursday.

The Bay Area flamethrower reportedly broke his finger after "awkwardly" placing it down on the trainer's table for a post-game exercise, according to MLB.com.

During the All-Star Game, Miller threw gas on a 103.6 mph pitch. He also had no problem striking out the great Shohei Ohtani, which is bold for an Oakland Athletic.

Miller injured his hand following a 4-0 shutout win over the Astros on Monday, throwing a scoreless ninth inning. In 34 appearances (40 ⅔ innings) this season, Miller posted a 2.21 ERA, accruing 15 saves and striking out 70 batters.

It's also a terribly timed injury to Miller, whose stock this season propelled him as one of the hottest trade targets for marquee clubs (Yankees, anyone?). Surely, teams will still be interested in acquiring the 25-year-old ace.
