Novak Djokovic Shows Up To Italian Open With New Accessory After Getting Plunked By Water Bottle

Novak Djokovic is already the king of men’s tennis. Now, he’s making a run at being the king of comedy.

After a straight sets victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet on Friday, the Serbian tennis star went towards the stand to sign autographs. As he was in the process of putting his John Hancock on the memorabilia, a metal water bottle came crashing down on his head, causing him to crumple down on the ground in pain.

At first, ESPN analyst and tennis legend John McEnroe (along with many fans) thought this was done on purpose. However, the Italian Open released footage of the incident that proved it was indeed an accident.

Thankfully, the hit did not seriously injure the sport’s G.O.A.T. Nor did it damage his sense of humor.

Djokovic showed up to the courts at the Foro Italico in good spirits, and even went right back to signing autographs for the dozens of waiting fans. But this time, he sported a bicycle helmet, just in case any other stray water bottles came flying in his direction.

The likelihood of him getting hit in the head with a water bottle are slim, but as we learned yesterday, they are never zero. As such, Djokovic came prepared in the most hilarious way possible. Who knew that the best tennis player on the planet has a fantastic sense of humor?

Djokovic faces off against Chilean Alejandro Tabilo in the Round of 32 tomorrow at 8 a.m. EST.
