Former Notre Dame QB Drew Pyne Transfers To SEC Team
Drew Pyne is on his way to the SEC.
The former Notre Dame and Arizona State QB told ESPN Sunday that he was transferring to the Missouri Tigers for his final three years of eligibility.
The decision from Pyne comes after he chose to return to Notre Dame to work on his academics and his health following a brief stint as a transfer at Arizona State before injuries ruined last season.
Pyne has thrown for 2,530 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his college career going back to 2020 - with almost all of it coming in South Bend.
Drew Pyne transferring to Missouri.
This is a huge addition for Missouri and head coach Eli Drinkwitz. Pyne is a proven commodity with plenty of football under his belt and three years of eligibility remaining.
There will also be no pressure for him to start this season. Brady Cook will almost certainly remain QB1 for the Tigers, and Pyne will be locked in as QB2.
That means Missouri might have the most stable QB room in America. Cook is a legit star and Pyne started for the Fighting Irish before transferring to Arizona State.
Once 2025 rolls around, Pyne will slide into the QB1 role for Drinkwitz and the Tigers. That's the kind of QB transition most programs can't even dream of having.
Going from a star QB to another guy who was 8-2 as the starter at ND is a gift to Drinkwitz and fans.
If Pyne can continue to develop this upcoming season and stay at 100%, then he should be in great position if his number is called unexpectedly. It's a great situation for the Tigers and the former ND passer. Let me know what you think at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
