Nick Castellanos Cracks A Double And HR Just After Joe Biden Drops Out, Which Continues An Insane Trend Of His

Bad and or consequential news seems to always be good news for Nick Castellanos.

Allow me to explain.

Earlier Sunday, the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder was up to bad against the Pittsburgh Pirates, when he cracked a double in the top of the fourth inning. While that may sound insignificant, this hit came less than half an hour after President Joe Biden announced that he would drop out of the upcoming election

He then cracked a dinger in the ninth inning because why not.

I get it, this might seem like a stretch. I can hear you thinking, "John, I know its the weekend, and we’re all supposed to be taking a mental break and just enjoying life. But this seems like you’re reaching a big. What’s your point?"

That’s all fair. I wouldn’t bother typing out this piece if something like this only happened once, or even twice.

But including today’s at-bat, Castellanos has racked up a highlight on somber events in eight separate occasions.

It all started when radio broadcaster Thom Brennaman was apologizing for using a homophobic slur during a Cincinnati Reds game in 2020. Castellanos (who was playing for the Reds at the time) proceeded to go yard, instantly creating a viral meme.

(BTW, Castellanos' success against Pittsburgh today came on the same day that Brennaman was brought back from exile. You literally can't make this stuff up).

The following year, he homered in the middle in the middle of two Kansas City Royals broadcasters eulogizing a World War II veteran who had died just two days earlier.

But Castellanos didn’t just limit his bad timing to games against the Royals.

In a 2022 spring training game, he hit a single while the broadcasters were attempting to talk about a Blue Jays pitching coach who got served with a DUI.

Castellanos couldn’t even let a Memorial Day tribute just two months later go by interrupting it with a blast.

You would think that this guy would let the broadcast get in some well-wishes to Brian Anderson (a former Phillies manager) who had just had a stroke. But, the attention hog just couldn’t help himself, as he blasted a home run in the middle of that too.

I mean seriously, this has to end soon. I mean, this is the FIFTH TIME he’s forced the spotlight on himself in moments when it was really, really awkward to do so.

But he just kept going.

In this year alone, he not only hit a walk-off single on the day that Willie Mays died, he hit a home run just hours before Thomas Crooks tried to take the life of former President Donald Trump.

Thankfully, these last two things didn't completely interrupt something more important than a baseball game. But the fact that both happened on the day of some consequential event is still astounding.

And now, we’ve got what happened Sunday.

They say something happening once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, and three times is a pattern. I think eight times is enough evidence to suggest that when something somber or big is happening in the news cycle, Castellanos finds a way to get himself front and center of the narrative.
