NFL On CBS 1977 Intro Video Goes Viral As Each Play Would Be A Penalty Today

We used to be a country, a proper sports country!

A clip of CBS's NFL football intro from 1977 has gone viral as fans joke that every highlight included in the reel would be a penalty today - or even a suspension!

Football fans are salivating over the intro reel that shows "just what made football, football" and why the sport became so popular to begin with.

I wasn't even close to being born in 1977 but I'm even getting all jacked up over that video. The "HUT HUT HUT HUT HUT?!" My God, I feel like I could run through an entire encampment of Pro-Hamas supporters!

There isn't any way a television network would allow any of those plays to be shown on replay - let alone used in a weekly promotional montage. From stepping ON a guy while he's on the ground with his cleats, to unreal tackles that send players flying in the air, to even Turkey Jones's brutal piledriver tackle on Terry Bradshaw, let's just say plays like this would be looked down upon by the league - hell, maybe even suspension-worthy! (Only the facemask penalty has consistently stayed the same.)

Football fans commented with absolute nostalgia as they fawned over a better time for a sport that now penalizes linebackers if they sneeze in the direction of a quarterback who doesn't have the ball anymore.

BACK WHEN FOOTBALL WAS GOOD

Honestly, for a league that is so hell-bent on bringing in revenue any way they possibly can - including making a dramatic shift in the international market in Europe and elsewhere, if Roger Goodell REALLY wanted to make big bucks he would bring back this kind of playing style. This is what many believed the XFL, when initially launched by the WWE was going to be - needless to say, that didn't pan out.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the grit of 70's football is going to return anytime soon, but hey - at least fans can look at these Toad mushroom helmets this season!
