New York Yankees Will Give Away George Costanza Bobbleheads On 'Seinfeld Night' In July
"Seinfeld" fans in the Empire State will love the New York Yankees newest planned bobblehead promotion for the upcoming season.
On July 5, fans who arrive early to a game against the Boston Red Sox will be handed a special gift. As part of the team’s "Seinfeld Night," the Yankees will give away George Costanza bobbleheads to the first 18,000 fans to arrive at the ballpark.
Now you might be thinking, what does a character from a sitcom series have to do with an MLB franchise?
For three seasons of the show, Costanza (played by Jason Alexander) worked as an assistant to the traveling secretary for the Yankees. New York’s traveling department never ran smoother than when Costanza was on the job. Of course, there’s no real way to verify that, but you’ve got to assume he did a pretty good job.
Costanza "landed" the job in a rather hilarious fashion too. During the final episode of Season 5, he openly criticized former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner for how he managed the organization. Ironically, Steinbrenner admired how bluntly Costanza shared his thoughts. Thus, he landed a new job as the assistant to the traveling secretary.
Not only was he pretty good at his job, he also knew a thing or two about hitting. He even helped Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams fix their swings - on Saturday Night Live, of course.
After seeing all he did for the organization, its no wonder why Costanza is getting his own bobblehead night. The man deserves to be honored.
