New York Rangers Team Up With FDNY & NYPD For An Epic Stadium Series Entrance
Without question, the New York Rangers chose the best theme for their entrance to a Stadium Series matchup against the New York Islanders.
The Blueshirts traveled to MetLife Stadium earlier this afternoon for an outdoor matchup with their crosstown rivals. It’s the second of two matchups at the home of the New York Jets and Giants, as the Philadelphia Flyers and New Jersey Devils played in that same stadium last night.
For yesterday’s game, the Flyers walked into MetLife wearing Rocky-themed outfits, while the Devils took their pregame garb inspiration from The Sopranos. As OutKick’s Matt Reigle stated yesterday ever so eloquently, these outfits "will make you want to eat lightning and gabagool."
It’s true, those outfits were absolutely fantastic and perfectly encapsulated a cultural element of each city. But the Rangers saw those entrances and said "hold my beer."
As they pulled up to MetLife, they rode in on fire trucks and police cars along with members of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) and Police Department (NYPD). Additionally, the players wore jerseys that were color coded to honor each department and had the names of the officers they walked in with.
That, ladies and gentlemen, is how you make your entrance to an outdoor game. Not only did they ride up to the game in a fire truck, they took the time to honor the men and women that serve and protect the city (which teams should do more often). This definitely makes me want to eat some lightning.
To be fair, the Islanders also paid homage to these departments, and head coach Patrick Roy rode in a fire truck as well.
But the Rangers won the day because they actually wore uniforms that honored the FDNY and NYPD, while the Islanders showed up in standard suits.
